Beloved husband to Olive, father, grandfather/great-grandfather and friend. His life continues through his children - Peter, Paul, and Susan, and their families, Karyn, Kyle and Claire, and Vicki, Jeremiah, Jessica and Jennifer.
Peter started his life's journey in Rising Sun Maryland on May 18, 1927. His childhood summers where spent on his grandparent's farm in Mount Vision. In 1967, after working in New York City for a major newspaper, he and the family moved back to his childhood roots - back to the farm. He was a man of hobbies, and pursued these with a passion - such as woodworking, licensed amateur radio operator, radio control airplanes, fixed-wing airplane pilot, reading , dogs, birds, and more.
His legacy is a legacy of service: World War II Navy veteran, Boy Scout Leader, Laurens Board of Education, Elks Lodge, Masonic Lodge, Board of Directors at St. James Manor, volunteering through hospice; and all the little things people do - always ready and willing to help people in need. This commitment to service continues - his sons and grandson are military veterans, his daughter and granddaughters work in education and public health.
Peter will be remembered with a smile and a bitter-sweet memory. The sadness of a loss is overshadowed by a sense of honor and gratefulness at having been a part of his life well-lived.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 12, at St. James' Episcopal Church, Oneonta.
A reception will follow at St. James Manor, 9 St. James Place, Oneonta.
In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the American Cancer Society.
