Our family lost a loved woman on January 11, 2021 when Phyllis
Sangetti passed away in her family home with her two daughters and
son-in-law by her side.
Philomena Castellano was born on April 18, 1919 to Angelo and
Angelina Castellano in Brooklyn, NY where she was one of ten
children. Phyllis was the last of her siblings.
In 1936, Phyllis met Paul at Fort Greene Park in Brooklyn at a dance,
and they got married in 1941 when Paul was offered a job as the
super in an apartment building on Ave J and Ocean Ave. One of the
conditions of employment was Paul had to be married. On 7/27/1941
they got married, and danced together for over 60 years.
Phyllis lived most of her life with her large family in Brooklyn, NY until
moving upstate to Oneonta in 2006 with her daughter MaryEllen,
son-in-law, and grandchildren.
Then, Phyllis became a snowbird, where up until the last years of her
life, she spent six months in Miami, Florida with her daughter Barbara.
In Miami, they attended theatre, and restaurants with people who
loved Phyllis very much.
Phyllis always had a house full of company, she cherished her family,
and every moment around the kitchen or dining room table eating and
drinking and laughing with people she loved.
Phyllis is survived by her loving family, daughters Barbara and
MaryEllen; Son-in-law, Teddy; Grandson, Colbie; Granddaughters,
Diandra and Sierra, and hundreds of nieces and nephews.
