He was born on December 23, 1932 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Earl K. and Alvina Mollison.
Entering the service in 1952 as a Seaman Recruit, Ralph eventually became a Radarman for the US Coast Guard, assigned to a cutter ship that paroled the coastal waters from Washington up along Alaska. It was while in the service he met and married Constance McKinley on June 5, 1954 in Alaska.
Receiving an honorable discharge in 1955, Ralph went on to attend college and received his Bachelors and Master’s degree in Physics from Ohio State University. He taught physics for a year at Western Washington College in Bellingham, Washington. He then accepted employment at the State University College at Oneonta, NY to once again teach physics, moving to Oneonta in the early 1960’s.
Keeping active in the community, Ralph coached Little League for ages 9-12, was a member of the Elks Club and the Masons, bowled on the Lampo Lanes Bowling Team, was a member of a Bridge Team, and played on the Community Soft Ball Team for seniors, participating well into his 70’s.
His family remembers him fondly and remark, “There was always laughter in our home, around the table and throughout the house. He loved music and always brought home a new top 40 record. He enjoyed camping trips to Cape Cod and was the whitest man on the beach! He loved the silly songs that made him laugh and he shared them with everyone. He was a man of integrity and taught us good morals to live by. Us children were never ‘spoiled’ as per the definition today of ‘abundance of things’, but we had a much greater gift of always knowing we were loved and cared for.”
Ralph is survived by his wife, Connie Mollison of Oneonta NY; son, Brian (Gail) Mollison of Stafford; daughter, Cathie (Vern) Smith of Las Vegas, NV; and a daughter, Cindy (Brian) Lent of Dryden, NY; 8 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren; niece Pam Hejduk and Nephew Mark (Jennifer) Mollison of Ohio .
He was predeceased by his mother and father; a brother, Earl D. Mollison; a great granddaughter, Olivia Edwards; and a niece, Nancy Mollison.
There are no services planned at this time.
