Born in Oneonta on July 29, 1923 the son of the late Claude and Ethel Marble the youngest of six siblings all of which predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Angelita Tavares Marble who passed away March 10, 2003; a son, John R. Marble of West Davenport who passed away October 2, 2007; and a son-in-law, Nelson A. Wells, Jr. who passed away April 9, 2005.
He attended Oneonta High School and served his country in August 1940 and completed his diploma in the service on March 17, 1941. He was discharged as a sergeant of the Military Police Battalion in March of 1944.
He moved back from San Juan, P.R. and started work at the Oneonta Postal Office and from there he went on to open his own business which was called “Speeds Delivery”. His nick name was “Speedy” and well known for 35 years. He is also known for having the first friendly neighborhood gym in his garage in Oneonta. He then worked at the Oneonta School system at Valleyview for 13 years as a custodian of the house keeping department, 10 of which were with his daughter, Sue.
His patience and smile was treasured by all. In his retirement years, he worked with his sons Brian, Rich and John part-time at “Muscles in Motion”. What a crew of pranksters. There wasn’t a day that went by a joke wasn’t pulled on one of them. What a combination of love and hardwork. His greatest passion was his family with his grandchildren by his side and we can’t forget his beloved lab, Blondie the family dog we all loved to dress up. Eight years old and looking good with sunglasses and a handkerchief around her neck, that put a smile on his face.
Raymond is survived by his five wonderful children, Violet Wells of Oneonta, Beverly and Dave Fuller of Delhi, Richard Marble of Maryland, Susan and Stan Holmes of Oneonta and Brian Marble and his significant other, Tammy Gardepe of Oneonta; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews all of whom he loved dearly. Dad was known at the house as the cook and would cook anything for his grandchildren on orders from his wife.
