Richard Paul Oellrich, 76, was called home to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 25, 2026. He was born in Flushing, Queens, to Richard and Paula (Kuhn) Oellrich. His parents purchased a large dairy farm in Pawling, NY, where he grew up and would eventually take over the family farm.
In 1975, he married the love of his life, Theresa (Panarello). In 1981, they moved their young family to Laurens, NY, where he pursued his dream of owning and operating a large dairy farm. For more than a decade, he found great joy in working the land, caring for his herd and sharing his passion for farming with his children. Through his example, he taught his children the value of hard work, commitment and taking pride in what they accomplished.
He was a man who believed in giving back to the community he called home. Whether serving on the Laurens Planning Board, driving ambulance for the Laurens Fire Department, or filling in as a rural mail carrier for the Laurens Post Office, he was always willing to lend a hand wherever he was needed. His commitment to service extended beyond these roles and into his everyday life, where he demonstrated that being a good neighbor and a good citizen meant showing up for others. He gave generously of his time and himself, leaving a lasting impression through his dependability, dedication and quiet acts of service. Above all, he was a devoted father who was always present to cheer on his children and celebrate their accomplishments.
After selling the farm in 1990, Richard began a 25-year career as a rural mail carrier in Windsor, NY. He found great joy in getting to know the people along his route, taking time to check on older residents and making sure they were doing well. For Richard, delivering the mail was more than a job; it was an opportunity to connect with others and show that he cared.
In retirement, Richard cherished the time he spent with his beloved wife, children and seven grandchildren. He was a steady and loving presence in his family’s life, offering Godly wisdom, patience, kindness and an abundance of love. He was someone his family could always count on and his example of faith and devotion will remain a lasting part of his legacy.
Richard’s faith was central to his life. He deeply loved his church, his pastors and his church family, and faithfully served for many years as an elder at the Assembly of God in Oneonta. His family finds comfort in knowing that as Richard entered his eternal home, he was welcomed with the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
He was predeceased by his parents, his sisters Wilma and Irene Oellrich. He is survived by his wife, Theresa and his children and grandchildren: his daughter, Noel Tarrants and her children, Elianna, Carter and Owen and his son, Eric and Rita Oellrich and their children Kylah, Evelyn, Elijah and Zachariah.
Calling hours will at the Assembly of God of Oneonta1667 County Highway 48, Oneonta, NY on Friday, October 30, 2026 from 2:00-3:00pm. Celebration of life service to immediately follow at 3:00pm.
Memorial gifts may be made in Richard’s honor to the Laurens Volunteer Fire Department or the Oneonta Assembly of God Memorial Fund.
