Robert was born September 27, 1940 in the Bronx, NY, the son of Leonard and Anna Dabreau. He graduated from Dewitt Clinton High School in the Bronx in 1958, before joining the United States Navy.
Robert married the love of his life, Constance Brown Dabreau on March 3, 1962 at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Oneonta, NY. Together they started their lives in Laurens, NY.
In April of 1962, Robert began his 20 year career with the New York State Police. He was very involved in the community, volunteered as a Boy Scout Troup Leader in Laurens and served on the Laurens Central School Board of Education for 10 years.
After retiring from the State Police, Robert did not sit still for long. He began working as a Paralegal for the law office of Robert Nydam in Oneonta, NY, was co-owner of the Red Sleigh Restaurant in Cooperstown, NY, New York State Park Police and even retired a second time as a claims investigator for N.Y.C.M. Edmeston, NY.
He was an avid lover of the outdoors, hunting, motorcycling, skiing and a member of the National Ski Patrol. He enjoyed traveling the country and spending winters in the Florida sun.
Robert is survived by his wife Connie of 51 years. He was predeceased by his eldest daughter Jeanne Dabreau Handler, and is survived by son Robert Dabreau Jr. and wife Amy, daughter Jennifer Dabreau Sickler and husband Steve, as well as his loving grandchildren; Samantha & Brandon Stewart, Sara Handler, Danielle Handler, Alex Handler, Gabrielle Sickler, Benjamin Sickler, Emma Dabreau, Ava Dabreau and Aiden Dabreau; his brothers, Leonard Dabreau, Richard Dabreau and Paul Leeger, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 PM, Friday May 10, 2013 at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St. Oneonta NY.
Funeral services will take place at St. Mary’s Church in Oneonta, NY at 10:15 AM Saturday, May 11, 2013 and will be followed by a graveside burial in the Laurens Cemetery.
