Ronald was born November 17th, 1934, in Paterson, New Jersey, the son of Anne Kessel and Harold D. Marsh. He graduated from Ramsey High School in 1947 and received his electrician certification in trade school in Chicago, Illinois in 1949. Ronald served in the Army National Guard from 1949 to 1953. He married the love of his life, Margaret Charlotte Heitz, on June 2nd, 1956. In 1967, he moved his family from Oakland, New Jersey, to upstate New York to join his father in the family business, Marsh Electric, that was based in Oneonta, NY. He also worked at Medical Coaches, in Oneonta, NY, as an international salesman as well as in the quality control department. Ron, an accomplished electrical contractor, built his family home in Laurens, NY, where he lived for 54 years until the last few months of his life when he moved to Rochester, Minnesota.
In the 1970’s, Ron and his wife, Peg, started the Laurens Ambulance Squad, along with two other founding members, to meet the emergency medical needs of the local community. He devotedly served for many years in all aspects of the squad as a certified emergency medical technician, even answering emergency calls from his home phone prior to installation of 911.
Ronald was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Oneonta, NY.
For many years, Ron, known as “Swampy” by his friends, also belonged to the Elk’s Club in Oneonta, NY, where he attended social gatherings and bowled with the leagues there.
An avid member of the Otsego Radio Control Airplane Flyers Club, he served as president, treasurer, and ‘groundskeeper’, taking regular trips with his tractor to mow the grounds. He loved building, flying, crashing, and rebuilding his remote model control model airplanes. In addition, he maintained all the care on his home, and enjoyed fishing in his boat, family camping trips, working on AMC classic cars and spending time with his wife, family and his cocker spaniel dogs, namely Mackie and Cooper. Wherever Ron went, his dog went too.
Ron was known lovingly by his family for being a master minded mechanic, able to fix just about anything that needed to be fixed. He was known in the local community for his integrity, honesty, loyalty, kindness, humility, and sense of humor that endeared him to all that knew him.
Most of all, he loved his family, including his wife, Peg, of 66 years, his four children, three daughters, Maureen Musselman (Roy), Jacqueline, Caroline Haag-Marsh (Barbara Ball), and son, Steven Marsh (Karen). He loved every one of his 10 grandchildren and his great- grandchildren.
