

Ronald Walter “Toad” Whitmore passed away peacefully on July 5, 2024. He was born on September 28, 1943 to Milton and Vivian Whitmore and was the middle child of three siblings. He was predeceased by his wife Donna Scanlon Whitmore on July 26, 2018.
Toad was a hard worker who always provided for his family working 2 to 3 jobs at a time. He worked for Oneonta State College before serving as highway superintendent for the town of Laurens. After, he worked for Cobleskill Stone and Robertson’s Blacktopping before returning to the State College where he retired. He was also Laurens Town Councilman for over 17 years.
He was very involved with his daughters’ activities in high school. He and his wife Donna were founding members of the POMP booster club and he never missed a color guard performance or parade. He was a chaperone when Laurens band travelled to Dayton, Ohio for the Football Hall of Fame parade.
He was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt and fish. He loved to camp and he loved the outdoors. He always looked forward to deer hunting season every fall where he and his best friend Donny traveled the back roads looking for the best hunting areas. Many hours were spent just talking, hunting, and getting into mischief.
He survived by daughter Jodi Whitmore and fiancé Lester Quick of East Branch, NY; daughter Julie, and husband David Barton of Huntington, NY. Granddaughter Alivia of Gaithersburg, MD and grandson Benjamin of Huntington, NY. He also is survived by his brother Richard Whitmore of Amelia, Virginia and his stepbrother Bill, and wife Judy, Briscoe West Oneonta. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Donna Sorrentino of Laurens, NY.
Calling hours will take place privately at the convenience of the family. A graveside service will be on Sunday, July 14 at 11:00 at the Laurens Village Cemetery . Reception will follow at the Laurens American Legion.
