

Susan J. Zinis, 78, a beloved traveling musician, singer, and drummer, passed away Friday, August 22, 2025 at home leaving behind a legacy of creativity, warmth, and family. She was a gifted writer who authored two real-life books and had a passion for gardening.
Susan was a devoted mother and a cherished wife. She was born November 13, 1946 in New York City the daughter of Fredrick and Elsie (Harrsch) Helwig. She grew up in Mahwah, NJ. She married the love of her life, Thomas Zinis, on February 14, 1971. In 1987, they settled in Otego, where Susan thoroughly enjoyed her home and made a couple of campgrounds that became special places where she would spend her time.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Zinis; four children: Vicki Ann Williams, James Zinis, Vanessa Prentice (Michael) and Andrew Zinis (Melissa). She is also survived by, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; her sister, Diana White. She also leaves behind one niece and one nephew; and a special friend and caregiver, Edward Levan.
Susan was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Zinis Jr.; her brother, Fredrick Helwig.
Susan will be remembered for her talent, her storytelling, her love for her family, and the joy she brought to all who knew her.
At her request there will not be any services at this time.
