He attended school in Oneonta, NY, having graduated from Oneonta High School in 1988. He was a successful wrestler throughout his school years, and competed after high school.
After several years in San Diego, CA and then several more in Crystal Beach, TX, Todd returned to Oneonta. (Much to the joy of his family)
Upon his return, he began working as a bellman at the Otesaga Hotel in Cooperstown, NY, a position he held until his passing. Todd loved his job. Many times he spoke favorably of the other bellmen and staff with whom he worked. His attendance record was excellent—perfect. He enjoyed very good health until a few days before he passed on from natural causes.
Todd Scheer was a tough and tender guy. He was a loyal friend, deeply devoted to his family, including those who married into the family. He was an encourager, an optimist, a problem solver, a fan of the Chargers and the Texans, and a giver of utmost respect toward his parents, siblings and others.
He could speak peace into an agitated situation. He had the ability to turn a table of people into a “laughing” table of people. He recently expressed how blessed he was for his loved ones who, in turn, are extremely blessed by God for setting him in the family.
Though Todd did not have children, very close relationships were formed with his nieces and nephews; Albert, Angeline, Brian, Bianca, Eric, Brandon and Austin. Todd was Uncle Fun to them.
Todd was predeceased by his younger brother, Jon. Surviving Todd are Jeffrey and Michele Scheer (Austin) Oneonta, Barbara Leech Bordner, Phillip Leech, Robert Bordner of MD, (Albert and Kay Leech of MD) (Angeline Leech of MD), (Brian and Bernie Leech, IN) (Bianca Leech, of MD) Eric and Mary Scheer, (Eric and Brandon) Oneonta. Also surviving are his close friends Chris Tynon, Green, NY, John Valley, TX, David LaRock, Ogdensburg, NY and a large number of school and neighborhood friends.
Todd’s faith was very important to him. The Bible was his textbook. He and his sister often shared scriptures while texting. He freely spoke with people about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. If he could speak to people today, it would probably be something like this: “Hey guys Heaven is real. Don’t miss it”. No one needs to miss it.
“If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9-10 (Most important decision a person will ever make).
Of Course, we dearly miss Todd. We do find comfort that because he was a believer on earth (Romans 10:9-10), he is now in the presence of God and in awe of his new surroundings, and as we leave earth, we will again be with Todd forever.
A Celebration of Todd’s life will be held August 24, 2019 from 3 to 5 pm at the 6th Ward Athletic Club, 22 West Broadway, Oneonta, NY.
