He was born on April 22, 1954 in Schenectady, NY, the son of Irene (Burdick) Ovenstone.
Vernon served his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. However due to medical reasons, he was honorably discharged in 1971. Vernon traveled with the Griff-Gillette Concession Company for many years, working fairs and carnivals during that time until he left to join his son at Rental Company One, Inc. in Oneonta. He worked there for 9 years until his sudden passing.
He was a very devoted family man who loved spending his free time with his children and grandchildren. Vernon was very selfless, the kind of man that was always willing to help someone in need, no matter what. He had a deep love for the outdoors, enjoying his trips to the beach and many other activities including horseshoes and barbeques, and walking along the beach with his son in their socks. He also held a fascination with eagles.
Vernon is survived by his mother, Irene Ovenstone; his partner and fiancé of 14 years, Louise; his son, Vernon H. Ovenstone, Jr. and his partner, Kimberly; his step-daughter, Anna Sites and step-son, William Sites; and his three grandchildren, Desirie, Tyral, and Arianna Ovenstone.
He is also survived by his sister, Vera Benson and his brother, Vaughn Ovenstone and his wife Helen; and his two cats, Ashley and Mischief.
In keeping with Vernon’s wishes, there will be no formal services. A private service for family and friends will be held at a later date.
