Virginia V. Coddington

Virginia Elderkin VanDenburgh Coddington (Ginny), 94, formerly of Oneonta passed away Monday, June 4, 2018 at Pineville CMC, North Carolina. She was born January 9, 1924 in Oneonta the daughter of the late Jay and Orvetta ( Elderkin) VanDenburgh. She graduated from Oneonta High School in 1941. She also graduated from Delhi with Secretarial course as secretaries were needed because of the war. Her first job was in the Bond Department of Scintilla Plant, Sidney, NY. She worked for T.P. Hughson, Richard Applebaugh, Albert V.V. Ball, all insurance agencies. Ginny was a secretary for principals of River Street School, Mitchell Street School and Valleyview School. On June 30, 1945, Ginny and S/Sgt. C. Wesley Coddington, Jr. were married at Main Street Baptist Church, Oneonta, NY. They owned and operated Coddington’s Florist for 45 years then sold it. She gave birth to Priscilla A. Coddington Taite and Douglas A. Coddington. Ginny was involved in many organizations. She was Matron of Martha Chapter, Treasurer & Chaplain of PEO, very active member of the Main Street Baptist Church where she was a former deaconess, former Youth Leader, Sunday School teacher, choir member, President of the Ladies Circle and member of the Board of Trustees. She was also a volunteer at A.O. Fox Hospital and served a 2 year term as Regional Unit Director for Teleflora. Ginny is survived by her daughter, Priscilla & John Taite; her son, Douglas & Grace Coddington; six grandchildren & spouses, Jim Taite, Jennifer & Christopher Louprette, Wesley & Karen Coddington, Patricia & Tony Crawford, David & Lana Coddington and Stephan & Sarah Coddington; as well as 14 great grandchildren. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2018 in the Main Street Baptist Church, 333 Main Street, Oneonta from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Funeral services will immediately follow at 1:00 PM with Rev. Gary Bonebrake retired minister of the Main Street Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta. Ginny was a lovely and talented woman. She always presented a positive attitude and brought a ray of sunshine to any group. May she rest in peace.

I am so sorry to hear of Ginny's passing. I remember her fondly as a volunteer at Fox Hospital. May the Lord bring comfort to all of you at this time.
