William "Bill" L. Meade

William “Bill” L. Meade, 72 of Oneonta, passed peacefully on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

He was born in Endicott, NY, the son of the late Ernest and Lillian Meade of Newark Valley.

Bill was a graduate of SUNY Delhi and also attended Clemson University where he graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was employed by SJ Groves and Sons Construction Company and Labor Local 17 Union, performing heavy and highway construction projects across the country and overseas.

A US Army Veteran, Bill served as Chaplain for the Oneonta American Legion Post 259.

Bill’s genuine, kind, and generous nature made him liked by everyone he knew. He could build or fix anything as well as run any piece of equipment. He took pride in his accomplishments and hard work.

He was a member of the BPOE 1312 Oneonta Elks Club and the 6th Ward Athletic Club.

Bill is survived by his wife of 39 years, Nancy; his son Brian (Lea) of Long Island; his daughter Alison of Oneonta; his grandchildren, Thomas, Taylor, and Elliana; and his siblings, Shirley Adamek, Kathy (Bill) L’Amoreaux, Willard (Lois), and Chuck (Sue). He was also deeply loved by his brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews, and countless friends.

Friends are invited to greet the family on Monday, December 18, 2017 from 6 to 8 pm at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street, Oneonta.

A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 2 pm at the Elm Park United Methodist Church, 401 Chestnut Street, Oneonta, with Rev. Donna Martin officiating.

Burial will take place at a later date in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

The family wishes to thank the Bassett Hospital Special Care Unit staff & Bill’s doctors for their kind, compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s memory are asked to be made to the Oneonta American Legion Post 259, the Elm Park United Methodist Church, or Catskill Area Hospice.
