He was born on September 29, 1936 in Oneonta, the son of William Foote and Alma (Jones) Slawson. He married Norma Carr on April 1, 1961.
A life-long area resident, Bill graduated from Oneonta High School as class and student council president in 1955. Of the many hobbies he enjoyed, woodworking, photography and gardening were his favorites.
Bill was a more than 50 year member of Oneonta Lodge F&AM #466. He served as 6th Ward Alderman on Oneonta Common Council from 1970-1976. A life-long member of St. James Episcopal Church, he served on Vestry.
Bill is survived by his wife Norma of Oneonta; his son, Jeffrey Slawson of Orchard Park; his son and daughter in law, Michael and Jessica Slawson of Schodack; a son in law, Dale Loveland of Otego; grandchildren, Emma and Juliana Slawson of Schodack, and Britney Loveland of Liverpool; a special niece, Teresa Webster and family of Oneonta; brothers in law, Dale Carr of Oneonta, and Roger and Gloria Carr of Oneonta; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Jennifer L. (Slawson) Loveland; a sister, Elizabeth F. Slawson; and a brother in law, Gerald Carr.
Friends are invited to greet the family on Monday, March 19, 2018 from 5-7 pm at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St, Oneonta.
A Requiem Mass will take place on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 11am at St. James Episcopal church, 305 Main St, Oneonta.
