Born September 17, 1932, in Oneonta, New York, Bob was the son of William R. Elwood, Sr. and Helen (Ristau) Elwood. He was raised in Oneonta and graduated from high school in 1950. He married the love of his life, Fannie, on June 20, 1954, and together they built a family and a life centered around hard work, love, and making sure those around them were taken care of.
Bob proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956 and was stationed in Alaska during the Korean War. After his military service, he spent 25 years working as a beer distributor for West End Brewery before moving into construction, a trade that suited his natural talent for building and fixing things.
Bob was happiest when working with his hands—whether building something, tending his gardens, or canning vegetables. He also loved bringing people together and was known for throwing parties that filled his home with family, friends, food, and laughter.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Fannie; their six children, Debra (Jim), William (Connie), John (Julie), Donald (Leah), Thomas, and Steven (Arno); 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Mary and Martha.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at a later date.
