Hi, I am Rose, Al’s sister/manang. 

Al was a favorite nephew of our late Uncle Alfonso - his namesake - from Missouri, California. Our uncle was especially doting and generous to the younger Al. Al must’ve gotten this characteristic from him for he likewise shared his blessings to his family and relatives, for which we are grateful.

Al was generous with his talents. He served as my unofficial nurse. He would suggest medicines to me, advise me to see a doctor, and tell me which food is not advisable for seniors.

Whenever Al and Annie would come to the Philippines, I and my husband Buddy would be at the airport hours before their touchdown, eager to meet them. For the duration of their vacation, they would regularly go to our home para makipag-kwentuhan. And have our favorite past time - bingo and in between. Al and Annie were always so generous with their time.

Al would also crack jokes a lot and was also a good conversationalist. He always wanted a happy atmosphere. ‘Never a dull moment and always a happy reunion with this lovable brother.

I can still remember and feel Al’s tight hugs when we  said goodbye to them in front of our house, before their 2020 flight back to the US. I didn’t know that that would be our last personal goodbyes to him. I miss him so.

Rest now, Ading ko. You’re now in Heaven, honoring and adoring God. I hold on with faith to these —

“...Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10
“...and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” - Jesus, Matthew 28:20

To Annie, I and my family are here for you, all. We look forward to seeing and hugging you in person. God is still good - He made a home ready for our beloved Al and Buddy. We can get through this difficult season with God and with one another.

Uncle Al is very dear to me and my family. He was a very generous and funny uncle and a man who lived simply. 

He would regularly bring homemade papaitan and crab salad to our home when he and auntie would visit and we’d play in-between or bingo.  He loved eating seafood at Dampa resto and would often invite us for dinner there. When we had the chance to visit the US in 2019, he welcomed all 14 of our family into their home. Imagine the riot. But they were very cool. Up to now, we still reminisce that memorable vacation they allowed us to have.

I love Uncle’s dry humor. His one-liner “tito” jokes were the best. He’s really a cool uncle. 

I admire his simple way of living the most. Even with all that he’s achieved, he didn’t live a flashy life. His source of happiness was simply being with and serving auntie and his family, attending reunions, tending to his garden, listening to old songs, cooking Filipino food, playing card games with us, and slot machines. 😁

Generosity, fun, and simplicity - these are 3 of the many good things that uncle has imparted to me. We miss him and will continue to miss him dearly. ❤️ Enjoy heaven, dear Uncle Al!
