Gina was born on March 15, 1928, in Donora, Pennsylvania, to Manuel and Josefa Martinez. Alongina's parents emigrated from Spain and she was raised on the American Zinc and Chemical Company grounds in Langeloth, Pennsylvania until she was 18 years old. In 1946, she graduated from Union High School in Burgettstown before attending secretarial school.
After moving to Canton, Ohio, Gina met the love of her life, Paul "Sonny" Olivera. The two were married on December 1, 1951, and shared 62 wonderful years together until Paul's passing in 2013. In 1953, they relocated to Ontario, California, where they raised their three children: Joni Flaherty, Paul Olivera, and Carla Berry. One of Gina's greatest joys was being a mother- she devoted herself to her family with endless love and pride.
Gina also enjoyed her career, serving as the only Spanish-speaking receptionist at Kaiser Ontario on "I" Street, where her warmth and dedication touched many.
A lifelong sports fan, Gina loved cheering for her beloved USC Trojans, attending games at the Coliseum until she was 89. Her TV was often tuned to the Dodgers or Lakers, and Saturdays were reserved for College Game day and football.
Known for her impeccable style, Gina was the ever-fashionable "Nana," always keeping up with the latest trends. Later in life, her greatest happiness came from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she adored and supported in all their activities and celebrations.
Gina is survived by her three children: Joni (Frank) Flaherty of Upland, Paul (Diane) Olivera of Alta Loma and Carla (Lance) Berry of Hermosa Beach; seven grandchildren - Carly, Gina, Megan, Kristina, Rachel, Sonny, and Brandie; and seven great-grandchildren - Grant, Mia, Nicolas, Luke, Caleb, Cameron, and Cole. She was deeply loved and will be forever remembered for her warmth, grace, and vibrant spirit.
