In 1951 Al moved to California for job opportunities. He was hired immediately at Garrett Air Research. When his draft number came during the Korean War in 1953, he proudly served his country until 1955. Al returned to his job until 1991.
During those 40 years, Al supported his new bride, Lois Adema, whom he married in Bellflower, California, on October 6, 1961. Both were members of First Bellflower Christian Reformed Church, where he served on the consistory. Together, they had five children, whom Al loved fiercely. After retirement, Al and Lois moved to Gilbert, Arizona, where they lived for 14 years, followed by 13 years at the Inland Christian Home in Ontario, California.
Those of us fortunate enough to have been loved by Al knew that he had a servant’s heart, a passion for Christian education, and the gift of contentment. Our hearts are sad, but we know Al is with his Savior, whom he served faithfully every minute of his life.
The loved ones he leaves behind are his wife of 64 years, Lois Klein; his five children, Pam (Don Hoekstra), Alleen (Kevin De Boer), Lisa (Jonathan Gross), Lori (Chris Huisken), and Jeff (Lyndi) Klein. He was also blessed with 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his siblings Karen Brown (Austin, TX), Don Klein (Ontario, CA), and Robert Klein (Sioux Falls, SD), and was preceded in death by Arlis VanderSloot and Harv Klein.
