Anita Gomez

My aunt Anita Gomez was a beautiful woman born on March 5th, 1938 and died on November 21st, 2024 at the age of 86. She was the third of four children born to Aleja Luna and Gabino Gómez born in El Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico.

She suffered three great tragedies in her life. The first was when she was 16 years old. A friend of hers was playing with a rifle and not aware that it was loaded shot her in the face. Miraculously she was not killed but became totally blind. She lived in this darkness for 70 years.

Her second greatest tragedy was when her 24 year old son was killed by a bullet. She was devastated because he was her whole life even though he was born out of wedlock and the father abandoned them Mario gave her new hope.

Her third biggest tragedy was losing her mother, my abuelita. She was her eyes and constant companion. My grandmother would do anything for her. After her mother died she moved from place to place with the help of caregivers until she was finally placed in a nursing home. She lived there for ten years until God took her to her eternal home in Heaven.

My aunt had an incredible memory. She knew dozens of prayers from childhood. She knew the names of all her ancestors from both sides of the family. She knew many recipes that she learned from her mother who owned a small restaurant in Mexico. She loved to eat and was an expert on Mexican foods. She loved tacos de lengua, pozole, menudo, mole and arroz con leche among other dishes.

My aunt had a very tragic life but she never lost her faith in God or the Virgen of Guadalupe. In many ways she saw life more clearly than others. She accepted God’s will for her life!

A prayer service for Anita will be held Tuesday, December 17, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Draper Mortuary, 811 North Mountain Ave, Ontario, CA 91762. A visitation will occur from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, 811 North Mountain Ave, Ontario, CA 91762. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, December 18, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 10079 8th St, Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91730. A committal service will occur Wednesday, December 18, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Bellevue Memorial Park, 1240 W G St, Ontario, CA 91762.
