October 11, 2014 brought an end to a legend of a rare person, Battista Secondo Pruneri. He was born in Guasti, California Sept 19, 1923. He is predeceased by his wife Margaret, his brother Aurelio (George) Pruneri, son Michael Gideon. He was raised in the Colonies of the “Italian Vineyard Company”. His parents came to the United States from Northern Italy to have a better life and raise a family over a hundred years ago. The family was
a very influential part of the Guasti history. The Guasti Church still stands and holds services with the “Pruneri Family Bells” ringing in the Bell Towers. His father arranged with the Family Factory in Italy to have them sent here. He was so very proud of his family heritage and always had many stories to tell.
Bob attended to Guasti Elementary School and graduated from Chaffey High School in 1943.
He started working for a small Italian Market when he was about 15 years old. He was soon introduced to an Italian Sausage Maker who taught him the trade. Accomplishing that, he soon became the butcher and learned to make over 27 different kinds of sausage, most of his own recipes. He delivered beer with their Beer distributorship and did all this raising his family sometimes working 7 days a week. Continuing to be the Meat Man and “Sausage Maker” until
the store called Santolucito’s in Rancho Cucamonga closed almost 60 years later.
Bob served in the Army Air Force in WWII as a Radio Gunner on the B-24 Bomber. He was very proud of his service to his country, but even more proud of his family and they always came first. His customers at Santolucito’s Market ran a close second. Bob married Margaret Pruneri and raised two daughters, Sandra Gottshall and Debbie McKeown. He felt very proud of his 5 Grandchildren, Stephen Pruneri, (Veronica) Shaun McKeown, (Tricia), Lisa Campbell,
and 6 Great Grandchildren.
His favorite pastime was spending time with his family and friends. Telling many stories and visiting Guido’s Italian Deli every day visiting with old and new customers.
Bob also enjoyed his weekly Elks Meetings. He was the oldest living Elk, a 65 year member of the Ontario Elks Lodge 1419.
He was a man of great integrity, good friend and an infectious smile. Never to be forgotten.
