

Lewis passed away peacefully at the age of 97 in Mission Viejo on April 1, 2026, at Providence Mission Hospital with his family by his side. He was born May 24, 1928 in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, who passed away on December 13, 2019. They were married for 68 years. Lewis grew up in Wisconsin and attended Dodgeville High School where he participated in band, chorus, basketball, football, baseball, and track. He volunteered for the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1948 serving in Pensacola, Florida. After leaving the Navy, he entered the University of Wisconsin at Madison. During his time at the University, he took a summer trip to visit his cousins in California and met his future wife, Mary. After a whirlwind romance, they married in Ontario, CA in 1951. Lewis graduated with honors in accounting in 1952. He became a partner in the CPA firm Vavrinek, Trine & Day in 1959 and focused on the auditing of school districts. In addition to his work responsibilities, he was a faithful member of Redeemer Lutheran Church for over 65 years, including serving as Treasurer for many years. He also served as President of the Kiwanis Club of Ontario. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, children and grandchildren and used his voice to entertain guests on cruises during talent show competitions. His brother Dawson (Marie) predeceased him. Lewis is survived by his brother Arden (Jean) Trine, son Tom (Lourdes) Trine of Pasadena, his daughter Laurie (Richard) Sandfer of Mission Viejo, three grandchildren Courtney (Marc), Brendan (Kat) and Jordan (Caitlyn), and three great-granddaughters, Samantha, Lucy, and Hazel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church and the San Antonio Hospital Foundation.
