Cherice Rose Carter "Granny"

Cherice Rose Carter, age 91, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025, at her residence in Covina, California, surrounded by family. It is meaningful to note that she passed away on the same date as her husband Richard, 24 years apart. She was born on December 14, 1933, in Wellington, Kansas, to Oscar and Edna Huffman.

Affectionately known as "Granny," she was everyone's grandmother- kind, accepting, and loving not only to her own family but to extended family, friends, and neighbors as well. She lived most of her life in Covina and spent 70 years in the same home on Greenhaven Street.

She married Richard Carter in July of 1949, and they shared 52 years of marriage. They raised two sons, Ernie and Robert. She was a devoted grandmother to five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Granny loved watching "Murder, She Wrote" and "Walker, Texas Ranger" while enjoying a good hotdog followed by a bowl of ice cream- two of her favorite things.

She was preceded in death by her son Ernie, her grandson Robert Jr., her husband Richard, her parents Oscar and Edna, and her younger sister Patsy. She is survived by her son Robert, Sr.; grandchildren Patrick, Sarah, Ernie, and Crystal; and great-grandchildren Alexys, Christian, Benjamin, Kataria, Zachary, and Zane, her niece Sheree as well as many more in her extended family.

A memorial service will be held on June 4, 2025 at Draper Mortuary (811 N Mountain Ave, Ontario, CA 91762) beginning at 11:00am, followed by a reception at the family home in Covina. Anyone who knew Granny is welcome.

The following day she will be laid to rest in a private ceremony.

Her family will always remember her for her steadfast thriftiness, staunch, stubborn strength, and the unconditional love she gave to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
