I remember all the family get togethers in Southern California at my Grandparents on Sundays. Dan was always the funny cousin and so friendly. Later after we moved the Salerno family would visit, Dan was still the funny cousin. He also stayed in touch via phone and would speak with both my parents. He and my Dad sat and joked together often. They were two peas in a pod!  

I'm so glad that my sister and I were able to make it to Cousin Dan's services. He was all about family and I truly miss him.

Dan was a great man. Nick and I loved visiting him and Dot. Dan kept us entertained for hours with his stories of his grandkids. How he loved them! As far as Dan was concerned, his grandkids were the smartest, most talented and  best looking kids on earth. He was so proud of all of their accomplishments.
Dan was a friend to everyone. He welcomed everyone into his home, and treated them like family. He always made sure he fed his guests, and on occasion, would even give up his bed for his guests.
Dan's greatest love was his wife Dorothy. He thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world. I remember the time were  visiting Dot and Dan and the conservation turned to "What would we do differently if we had our life to live over." Dan said, "I don't know what I would do differently, but one thing I know is I would marry Dorothy all over again. I'm sure their marriage was made in heaven.

My DAD was my rock. I was so bless to have such a loving father. My Dad was always so happy,loving,caring, teacher of how to care about our family. He would always help others with out being ask. His love of life was with him to the end.  I called him every night because he was not only my dad but my mentor. He was always there for my sister and I if we needed him for anything.  I miss you so much dad.  I find myself picking up the phone to call him at night. It has been on year since my dad has passed and I still cry.  I know he is in heaven with my Grand parents and the rest of our family.  My mom and I miss him so much.  I can not even express the love I had for my dad.  My DAD was my everything.  I love you Dad

As my dad (Jerome) alluded, Dan assumed the role of grandfather after my beloved biological grandfathers passed away within a year of each other in the late 1970s. Soon after our family moved to Yucca Valley in 1980, Dan and Dot were present at virtually every major family life cycle event. I loved hearing stories about his life, his prodigious family, his adventures in WWII...but especially how he so admired my dad for taking such good care of his health over the years. Almost every conversation we had over the years was sure to contain these items: 1) how much my dad loves me, 2) how far he thinks I can hit a golf ball (not true, but I appreciated him saying it), 3) the enjoyment he got over waxing both his and my dad's car, and - most importantly - 4) my dad is the best doctor he's ever had or known, bar none. 

My wife (Amy), dad and I are truly thankful to have seen Dan on January 2 of this year at the Yucca Valley home he and Dot shared since 1977. He was as vibrant and caring as ever...taking care of Dot, scrambling around the house for cold cuts, bread and other assorted items for lunch...and, of course, engaging us in another episode of "storytime". Though he moved a little slower than the last time I saw him (at our wedding in 2011), you would not think this man was in his mid-90s.  

Dan lived life to the fullest - something we should all aspire to do. The world is a much emptier place now that he's not occupying it.

Dan was like a grandfather to my 2 boys-Ken and Chad. Dot/Dan attended their bar-mitzvahs, high school reunions, weddings, etc.
He considered my wife, kids and I part of his clan.
He lived a long, fulfilling life.

"Dan was my older Cousin who I admired so very much.  He was the family hero during the 2nd World War who went in as a Private and came home as a Captain.  I never saw him without a smile on his face, one who loved his family dearly and was always my loving first Cousin.  I will miss him so very much but know he resides in Heaven now.

Dan was the only Grandfather I ever had.  Both my blood Grandfather's passed before I was old enough to meet them.  I always loved his Awesome Spirit, and the way he loved Dottie.  They have the type of Love and relationship, we all can only to hope to aspire to.    My best memory was when Dan, Dot, Jan & Dana met us at the Delta and Dan was so excited to go for a ride in the boat.  As we were cruising along, he was reminiscing his river days and sharing stories of his boating escapades.  At one point I looked back and he was sitting back with eyes closed and I could only imagine he was thinking back on the "GOOD OLE DAYS"!! 
I will miss you and your GREAT stories, PAPA Dan!!
