Darrell Ray Gillispie

Darrell Ray Gillispie, age 75, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2026. Born on August 17, 1951, in Upland, California, Darrell was the son of Marie Gillispie (née Baptista) and Tony Doan. He was later adopted by John F. Gillispie, who gave him his family name.

Darrell experienced loss and independence at a young age. His mother passed away in 1967, when Darrell was just 15 years old. With his family circumstances further complicated by his stepfather’s military career and relocations, Darrell learned early in life to stand on his own and find his way forward. In 1968, at the age of 16, he attended the Job Corps in Texas, an experience that helped shape the determination and independence he carried throughout his life.

After returning to the Inland Empire, Darrell met the love of his life, Jean. Together, they built a life and family in Claremont, California, and were blessed with their son, Shayne. Darrell was a devoted husband and dedicated father who took great pride in his family. His family was at the heart of his life, and he cherished the time they shared together.

Darrell spent his career as a dedicated professional truck driver. He was a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family and in the life he built through perseverance and commitment.

Those who knew Darrell will remember him not only for his devotion to his family, but also for his kind and pleasant nature. He had a way of making people feel comfortable and was well liked by the many people whose lives he touched throughout the years. He will be remembered as a caring husband, loving father, and genuinely good man.

In later years, Darrell faced a courageous, multi-year battle with kidney disease and heart attack resulting in a quadruple by-pass. Through that difficult journey, he continued to show hope, strength, and perseverance.

Darrell is survived by his loving wife, Jean Lynch; his son, Shayne; his daughter-in-law, Jocelyn, his sister Diane Kelber and many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Donna Baldwin. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and the lasting love of the family and friends who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
