Born on June 20, 1933, in Michigan’s beautiful Upper Peninsula, Sue was the fourth of fourteen children born to Emil and Pauline Ketola. Growing up in a large, close-knit family, she learned the values of hard work, kindness, and gratitude—qualities that would define her life. As a young woman, she could often be found helping at her family’s gas station, pumping gas and greeting customers with her warm smile.
After graduating from high school, Sue married the love of her life, James L. Boggs, with whom she shared 66 wonderful years of marriage until his passing. Together, they began their life in Michigan, later moving with their three daughters to California, where they welcomed two sons and built a loving home full of faith and laughter.
Sue was a devoted homemaker who found joy and purpose in caring for her family. Her home was always open, her table always welcoming, and her heart always full. She was a longtime member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, where she worshipped and served faithfully since 1959. Her service included coordinating food for funeral receptions, translating Bibles into Braille, and
volunteering wherever she was needed. Her faith in God guided every step of her life, and she lived out her favorite saying: “Count your blessings.”
Sue is survived by her children: Barbara (Ed), Susan (Liz), Molly (Randy), John (Kellie), and James (Kim); 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. She is also survived by her many brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews, all of whom will remember her steadfast love, gentle humor, and unwavering faith.
Sue was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James L. Boggs, and by several of her siblings and loved ones who went before her.
Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is reunited with James and resting in the arms of her Savior. Her life was a testament to faith, love, and gratitude. She truly did count her blessings—and for all who knew her, she was one of theirs.
For the past 5½ years, Sue made her home at Oakmont of San Antonio Heights, where the residents and staff became her extended family. Her warmth, humor, and faith touched everyone around her.
The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff at Heartford Hospice for the gentle care, kindness, and dignity they provided to Mom in her final days.
