Dempsey Bethel Yearout, age 76, of Upland, California, passed away at home on December 28, 2020. Dempsey was born on March 26, 1944 in Wayne, Michigan, to his loving parents Vernon and Estelle Yearout (Hatcher).
Dempsey graduated from Wayne Memorial High School, Class of 1962, where he was a talented basketball player. He went on to study for two years at Alpena Community College on a basketball scholarship, before graduating from Eastern Michigan University with his Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts.
Dempsey served his country with the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1969 during the Vietnam War, and he earned the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the the Bronze Star, Nation Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Southeast Asia Campaign Medal, and Army Good Conduct Medal.
Following his military service, Dempsey moved to California and worked as a contractor and builder for more than 30 years, building homes, subdivisions, and shopping malls.
Dempsey married Joan Snyder on October 22, 1977, and together they shared nine years of marriage and raised two children until she passed away in 1986.
Loved ones will remember Dempsey as an outgoing, social person who enjoyed time with friends and family. He had a kind and caring attitude and was always willing to help others.
He loved playing softball with his son and friends, dirt biking, riding his Harley, and watching sports.
Dempsey was preceded in death by his loving wife Joan, and his sisters, Anita Yearout and Dolly Miller.
Dempsey is survived by his children, Susan (Chris) Peacor and Kurt (Robyn) Yearout; brother Gentry (Sharon) Yearout; sister-in-law Karen Snyder; nieces and nephews Brett (Jen) Miller, Adrienne (Anthony) Carpenter, Joy (Daniel) Symonds, and Sarah (Paul) Girard; grandchildren Austin Yearout, Nolan Yearout, and Corrina Caruso; great-granddaughter Sabrina Bruce, and many dear friends.
Visitation will be 8:00a.m. until 12:00p.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at Draper Mortuary, 811 N. Mountain Ave, Ontario, CA 91762. Capacity is limited, please text Robyn Yearout at 909-943-7405 to arrange a time-slot.

Burial and private Committal Ceremony will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park, 1240 West G Street, Ontario, CA 91762.
