Drake served in the military and was awarded the Purple Heart, a reflection of duty carried with quiet strength and enduring resolve. Throughout his life, he was, above all else, deeply loveable—someone whose warmth and steady presence drew people close and made family feel like the center of everything.
He met his wife, Beverly, at the roller rink in Montebello, a beginning that grew into a life rooted in devotion and shared memories. Drake valued his family and took special pride in his sons and his four grandchildren, holding them close as his greatest joy and accomplishment.
Drake found pleasure in simple, good company and familiar comforts—fishing, cards, bunco, and watching TV. He especially loved being at June Lake, out on the ocean, and, truly, any place that offered a change of scenery and a chance to enjoy the day. Sea fishing was his special talent, and those who knew him best will remember the satisfaction he found in the water, the patience it required, and the calm it brought.
His favorites added their own color to everyday life: Blues, Oldies, and Disco; the quiet steadiness of gray and blue; and the sweetness of treats and cookies. And in the sayings that became part of his signature—“3-6-9,” “They monkey drank wine,” and “Don’t sweat it”—family and friends will hear his voice again, familiar and unmistakable.
Drake was preceded in death by Ann Newman and Charmaine Lauricia. He is survived by Beverly Newman, wife; Michael and Drake Newman, sons; Azel and Danette Newman, daughter-in-laws; Ashton, Nolan, and Aaron, grandsons; and Taylor, granddaughter.
Visitation will be held at Draper Mortuary, 811 North Mountain Ave, Ontario, CA 91762, on May 18, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
