It’s with great sadness to announce the passing of Fermin Morales Torres of Celaya Guanajuato Mexico. Our beloved Fermin entered rest at the age of 86, on Friday, July 26, 2004. Fermin was born in Guanajuato Mexico on July 7th, 1938. He is survived by his Sons, Oscar, Jorge and Ramon and his daughters Christina, Leticia, his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
At the young age of 21, he came to the U.S, with the help of his uncle Manuel, and with his eagerness and ambitions, he took his first opportunity to work as a dishwasher, but that would be short lived as his determination and will to grow didn’t hold him back. He quickly worked his way up the ladder, he found himself working in High-end restaurants and eventually made the ranks as a Pantry Chef.
In the early 60s, Fermin was able to bring his wife Elvira to the U.S. and soon after, the rest of their family were able to join them. Elvira also began to work in the restaurant business and quickly realized she had a unique gift for food. With their skills, talents, dedication and a lot of hard work, in 1972, they opened their first restaurant, “Marcos Deluxe Smorgasbord” in the city of Van Nuys, and as a family restaurant, everyone worked, so their sons all got to work. This was a new beginning and a new chapter in their lives.
As we all know, Fermin was a strong leader, and would continually challenge his kids to ensure their growth in school and learning the English language. He would ask them in English, how do you say the word “Write, in English” and he would get the response, “escri”, we all know what he said to that, Ahh chinga!
We will always remember Fermin, for the love he had for life, his friends, family and all that was around him. His love for Cadillacs, Classic music, good food and exceptional service. Let’s not forget his moves on the dance floor, his smooth way of talking, a stiff drink and of course a pretty face. He made his way into the hearts of so many.
With that said, the Family would like to express how grateful we are to see the outpouring of love and support through this difficult time. His love, humor, kindness and joy for life, will continue to shine through each one of us…he will be missed…
Draper Mortuary extends our deepest condolences to the Torres family , friends, and to all who knew him during this difficult time . Fermin will be greatly missed .
