

George Beverly Winston, Jr , who passed away on February 9, 2025, was born on Wednesday, September 16, 1931, in Wichita, Kansas, from the marriage of Dorothy Lilllian Louise Sims~ a teacher, concert pianist, advocate for Civil Rights & philanthropist~ and Reverend George Beverly Winston, Sr, who was, in addition to his religious vocation, a mathematician and Civil Rights advocate.
George had 3 siblings: Gloria, Rupert and Sandra.
He attended Wichita University and from there joined the military service of the Army, where he became part of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), nicknamed “The Screaming Eagles”.
He had a brief marriage from 1958 to 1971, from which his 4 daughters and 2 sons were born ~ one of whom was lost to the family in December of 2020.
He retired from 40+ of years working for the State of California as an HR Account Manager in the 1990’s,
George was a musician, playing piano, trumpet and drums. For many years he was a member of a band that played his favorite genre of music ~ JAZZ! The band performed bi-weekly at set venues, as well as in travels around southern CA. He was also the band's vocalist. Additionally, he sang for private events, ceremonies and celebrations.
He attended First Christian Church, in Pomona, where he was a choir member, soloist and for a time, Choir Director.
George enjoyed traveling, especially to his favorite destination ~ Tahiti ~ where he had a time-share. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed learning about plants and nature in general. He enjoyed most sports, but especially basketball and football ~ the latter of which he was on first-string during both his high school and university time.
He is survived by 4 Daughters, 1 Son, 4 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren
