Hermina was born to Paul and Gerdena Douma on June 25th, 1937, in Artesia, California. She and her twin brother, Herman, were the oldest of 10 children. Hermina grew up in Artesia, and she graduated from Bellflower Christian High School in 1955. She married LeRoy Brink, and they had three children, Janet Lynn, Carla Jean, and Steven LeRoy. In addition to raising her three children, Hermina did sheet service for several bowling alleys, sewed clothes for her children, and even obtained her pilot’s license.
After Hermina married James Hundley in 1981, they moved to the town of Orleans in Northern California and opened the Orleans Mining Company. Their business started as a simple country café and ended 22 years later as a café, motel, Laundromat, gas station, grocery mart, tackle shop, jewelry store, sports bar, and part-time nightclub. The Orleans Mining Company was the social centerpiece of their small town. Hermina was the primary cook for the café, hosting local friends, hunting groups, fishermen, mushroom pickers, and firefighting crews.
In 2004 Jim and Hermina sold the Orleans Mining Company and lived in Klamath, California, for two years, managing the campground at Camper Corral in the summers and spending the winters in Mystic Forest. They moved to Rancho California RV Resort (“The Ranch”) in Aguanga, California, in 2006. At The Ranch, they became part of a wonderful community, making many friends. Hermina was well-known for baking pies and singing in the chapel choir.
Hermina lived in Huntington Beach after Jim’s passing. In 2018 Hermina moved to Ontario to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Carla and John. Hermina was a faithful member of the First United Reformed Church of Chino where she enjoyed attending numerous Bible studies, fellowshipping, singing in the choir, and baking cookies and pies. Hermina reunited with several women from her Class of 1955, attending a monthly classmate luncheon. She also enjoyed daily devotions, Taco Tuesdays, watching Dodger games with Carla, attending her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s events, reading, and crocheting/knitting.
Hermina is survived by her children, Carla (John) Ambriz and Steven (Karen) Brink, her 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, and her siblings, Maria (Stan) Groen, Fred Douma, Joan Vander Broek, Kenny (Suzy) Douma, Donna Schelling, and Kathy (Tony) Bosch. She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, James Hundley; her oldest daughter, Janet Bywater; and her brothers, Herman, Paul, and John Douma.
