Irene is survived by her sister, Sheila Heathcote; two daughters, Christine A. Stevens (David B. Stevens), and Jacqueline I. Reilly (Michael D. Reilly); four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was born on December 3, 1922, in Hillingdon, Middlesex, England. She served in the Royal Air Force during World War II. In 1944 she became a war bride and married James Harry Wright of the U.S. Army. After the war ended Irene moved to America with James where she lived the rest of her life and had a family with her "Jimbo". Irene never remarried after her loving husband James passed away in 1984.
Irene was very proud of her service to the Royal Air Force as a WAAF (Women's Auxiliary Air Force). She would tell everyone she met about her service during WWII. A couple hours before she passed, she raised her hand to her head in one last salute.
Irene was a devoted member pf Christ Church Parish, Ontario for many years. She worked for the Head Start program at the church in the 1970's to help low-income families. Later she was the bookkeeper for Christ Church until she retired at the age of 96.
She loved her tea and cookies very much. Teatime was an important English tradition that she kept her entire life. She would always say, "I will never refuse a cup of tea."
Irene will be laid to rest at Bellevue Memorial Park, Ontario Cemetery, California.
