Born on August 6, 1955, in California to parents Hope & Celestino, James lived a life rooted in service, strengthened by resilience, guided by loyalty, and fueled by a remarkable tenacity. He possessed a natural presence that drew people in with his humor and energetic spirit.
For more than 30 years, James served the State of California at the Herman G. Stark Youth Correctional Facility in Chino, California. Beginning his career as a Correctional Officer, he later served in a variety of roles, always bringing the same dedication and commitment to public service.
James met his wife, Carmen Martinez, at a disco club—a fitting beginning for someone whose love of disco & funk music remained with him throughout his life. He loved to sing, enjoyed karaoke, entertained family and friends with his favorite songs, and delighted everyone with his tongue twisters.
Above all, James was devoted to his family. He was immensely proud of his children, Ryan and Natalie, and grandson, Lucas, and nothing brought him greater joy than watching them grow and celebrate life's milestones.
James was preceded in death by his father, Celestino Martinez, and his mother, Hope Martinez.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Carmen Martinez; his son, Ryan Martinez; his daughter, Natalie Cardona and her husband Phillip Cardona; his grandson, Lucas Cardona; his brother, John Martinez; and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
