Jay Eldon Shaw

Jay Eldon Shaw passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026, at the age of 94. He was born on March 3, 1932, in the small hamlet of Somerset, Wabash County, Indiana, to William Darrell Shaw and Doris Fayeanna (Ridenour) Shaw. Jay was the oldest of five siblings together with Shelby, Roger, Jack and Thomas.

On August 16, 1953, Jay married his hometown sweetheart, Evelyn Zoe (Winger) Shaw, in Sweetser, Indiana. Their marriage of 68 years was the foundation of a life filled with family, hard work, love, and countless memories. Together, Jay and Evelyn raised four sons: Gregory, Randal, David and James. Their families continued to grow to include daughters-in-law Margaret, Karen, Tami and Lauren, 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, who brought Jay and Evelyn immense pride and joy.

Jay’s service in the United States Air Force eventually brought him and Evelyn to California, where they would make their home and build the life that became such an important part of their family story. After completing his military service, Jay began a career in the fence construction business. With determination, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a willingness to work hard, he founded Pomona Fence Company in Pomona, California and grew the company into a robust business over the next 35 years.

But for Jay, his greatest accomplishments were never measured in years of business or professional success. They were found in the life he shared with Evelyn and in the family they created together. He was a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose character and integrity will influence many generations to follow.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
