Johnny Henry Gutierrez, 77, died January 5, 2021, at Montclair Hospital of cardiac arrest/COVID-19. He was born October 17, 1943, in Los Angeles, CA, the son of Enrique Montejano and Marcella Genoveva Gomez. Johnny is predeceased by his mother and father, younger brother Ruben Gutierrez, and sister Gloria Montejano. He is survived by his wife Maria Guadalupe Delgado de Gutierrez, daughters: Marcy Youngblood, Sylvia Petrovitch, Sonia Gutierrez, Haydee Gutierrez, sons: Johnny Montejano and Ricky Gutierrez, and sisters, Carmen Gamboa and Lourdes Teresa Mendoza.
Johnny graduated from James A. Garfield High School, Class of 1962. He was a selfless, and giving man - from an early age he took on the responsibility in helping his widowed mother care for his younger siblings. Johnny was a Vietnam Veteran and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. He married Maria G. Delgado De Gutierrez, and they raised six wonderful children. They recently celebrated 55 years of marriage. For fifty years Johnny was employed as a truck driver and a member of the Teamsters Local Union #0848.
In high school, Johnny played football, and later became an avid sports memorabilia collector. Johnny enjoyed rebuilding and refurbishing motorcycles and vintage cars. He also had a passion for music. His involvement in the community included coaching Pop Warner Football and participating in local school fundraisers.
Johnny’s six children, seventeen grandchildren, and five great grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life. The legacy of Johnny’s kind spirit, passion for sports, creativity, and zest for life will live on through them. He was an inspiration to all who knew him. Johnny often had a smile on his face and his quick wit always brought a smile to others. Johnny enjoyed life, family and had many friends. He was always there to brighten the lives of others. Johnny will be missed by many, but not forgotten.
