It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of José Assis Bertão de Azevedo of Ontario, California. José joined Maria Elmira, his loving wife of 65 years, in heaven on Friday, August 30, 2024 at the age of 89.
José was born in the parish of Raminho, Azores, Portugal to João and Elvira Azevedo on November 20th, 1934. Joe and Maria immigrated to the United States shortly after their marriage in May 1955. José worked as a dairy farmer for 25 years, retiring at the age of 45 to spend more time with his family. In his free time, he loved to be off of the coast of California fishing, exploring the Western US in his RV and celebrating his heritage at the Chino DES Portuguese Hall.
José leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, selflessness and compassion that will be carried on by his son, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He will be deeply missed.
