Luz Torres de Santiago

Luz Torres de Santiago, 85, was born on August 22, 1940, in Jalisco, Mexico, and entered into rest on June 13, 2026. A resident of Ontario, California, Luz will be remembered with deep respect and enduring gratitude for a life shaped by faith, devotion to family, and the steady grace of a woman who gave of herself in countless, meaningful ways.

Luz’s love for home and family was the center of her world. She met her spouse locally in Ontario, near a market, and together they built a life grounded in commitment and shared purpose. Her care for those around her was offered through patient support, thoughtful guidance, and the kind of advice that stayed with you long after the conversation ended. She took particular pride in her children’s accomplishments, celebrating their successes with a joy that reflected her own generous spirit.

Her hands were gifted and her heart was open. Luz was talented at cooking, crocheting, and embroidery, skills she practiced with dedication and quiet artistry. She found happiness in simple pleasures and familiar comforts: listening to Vicente Fernández and songs such as “Gema”, watching talk shows, novelas, and The Three Stooges, and spending time surrounded by the people she loved most. She also cherished the outdoors and the beauty of travel, especially camping and seeing the world. Among her favorite places were Yosemite, Zion, and any campground filled with trees and nature.

A woman of deep faith, Luz loved God and the Virgin Mary, and her faith was not only personal but lived in service. She was involved in church and helped with church fiestas, offering her time and effort with humility and dedication.

In her passing, Luz joins her husband, Esteban; her sons Jaime and Tony; her grandson Vincent; her parents Josefina and Felix; and her sister Estella, aka Nina. She is survived by her children Gloria, Susie, Johnny, Rosemary, Olivia, Leticia and Lorraine; also 23 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Luz filled every room with her contagious laugh, a joyful sound that became one of her most cherished trademarks and earned her the affectionate nickname “La Gritona” from her father-in-law.

In the words she left behind- “Ya llego de donde andaba”, Luz offered a phrase that carries the familiar warmth of her voice and the lasting closeness of her spirit. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever honored.

Residente de Ontario, California, Luz será recordada con profundo respeto y eterna gratitud por una vida guiada por la fe, la devoción a su familia y la serena gracia de una mujer que se entregó a los demás de innumerables y significativas maneras.

El amor de Luz por su hogar y su familia fue el centro de su mundo. Conoció a su esposo Esteban en Ontario, cerca de un mercado, y juntos construyeron una vida basada en el compromiso y un propósito compartido. Su cariño hacia quienes la rodeaban se manifestaba a través de su apoyo paciente, su orientación reflexiva y esos consejos que permanecían en la memoria mucho tiempo después de haber sido compartidos. Sentía un orgullo especial por los logros de sus hijos y celebraba sus éxitos con una alegría que reflejaba su espíritu generoso.

Sus manos tenían un don especial y su corazón siempre estuvo abierto. Luz era talentosa para la cocina, el tejido a crochet y el bordado, habilidades que practicaba con dedicación y una discreta maestría. Encontraba felicidad en los placeres sencillos y las comodidades familiares: escuchar a Vicente Fernández y canciones como “Gema”, ver programas de entrevistas, novelas y Los Tres Chiflados, y pasar tiempo rodeada de las personas que más amaba. También apreciaba profundamente la naturaleza y la belleza de viajar, especialmente acampar y conocer nuevos lugares. Entre sus destinos favoritos se encontraban Yosemite, Zion y cualquier campamento rodeado de árboles y naturaleza.

Mujer de profunda fe, Luz amaba a Dios y a la Virgen María, y su fe no solo era algo personal, sino una forma de vida puesta al servicio de los demás. Participó activamente en su iglesia y colaboró en las fiestas parroquiales, ofreciendo su tiempo y esfuerzo con humildad y dedicación.

Al partir de este mundo, Luz se reúne con su esposo, Esteban; sus hijos Jaime y Tony; su nieto Vincent; sus padres, Josefina y Félix; y su hermana Estella, conocida cariñosamente como Nina. Le sobreviven sus hijos Gloria, Susie, Johnny, Rosemary, Olivia, Leticia y Lorraine; 23 nietos; y 25 bisnietos.

Luz llenaba cada lugar con su risa contagiosa, una expresión de alegría que se convirtió en una de sus características más entrañables y que le ganó el cariñoso apodo de “La Gritona”, dado por su suegro.
