December 26, 1954-March 30, 2020
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Flores on March 30, 2020. She was 66 years young at the time of her passing. She died after battling cancer. Mary was strong and determined to never give up without a fight. She loved God and has gone home to be with him.
Mary loved to travel and recently made a visit to Hawaii with her partner James Martinez. She loved to sew and often did coming of age wedding dresses while on missions to Mexico with her church. She also loved to make special cakes: wedding, birthday, and “cheering you up” cakes for her friends and family. Mary was always direct in sharing her thoughts and she never left a discussion unfinished. That was her style, whether you liked it or not. She was a great storyteller and awesome bargain shopper who could always find beauty in other people's junk.
Mary grew up poor but she didn’t let it define her. She was the matriarch of our family and she sacrificed her life to help her siblings. She always reminded them, and anyone else in her circle, that a good education was an opportunity to succeed.
Mary was preceded in death by her eldest sister Julia Hermosillo, step-father Leon Zarzoza, mother-Rosaria Zarzoza, her husbands-Richard Martinez, Alex Rivera, and Armando Flores. Mary leaves to cherish her memories her Father Richard Hermosillo Sr., her partner James Martinez, her daughter Raquel Rivera, her brother Tony Hermosillo, sister Maggie Hermosa, brothers Richard Hermosillo Jr., Danny Hermosillo, Mark Hermosillo, and George Hermosillo. There are also many nieces, nephews, and cherished family and friends.
Later this year, family and friends will be invited to a celebration of her life
