Matthew had to fight to come into this world, but with God's grace he made it. He claimed he could remember "wires" coming from his head! He lived some of his childhood in Ontario and later moved to Chino where he and his mother, Irene, lived with and later took care of his maternal grandparents Mary and Pedro Garcia. He attended school in Chino, but like many artistic people he was a rebel and obtained a GED instead. The sketchbooks he left are evidence of the amazing drawing skills of this artistic young man. Many sketches were inspired by his love of his Star Wars heroes who were rebels too. Eventually he became a handsome young man who didn't take the world at face value. Wise before his time. Matthew worked many years handling merchandise for a major retailer, the shop stories he would tell were often hilarious insights into human nature! He enjoyed trips to fairs and amusement parks where he would try out the new food crazes. He loved frog legs at the fair, but he really loved the apple stuffing his mom made for Thanksgiving. It became a no-brainer that she would always make it for him. Later, he and us were saddened by his mom's sudden and unexpected passing. He never really got over it. It became routine to see Matthew taking his almost daily walk up and down Oaks Ave where he became acquainted with many of its residents. Now, so suddenly with no warning, God took you from us and now you will never again be seen on your walks. Likewise, we who love you will never again see you on Earth, but you will always be in our hearts.
Matthew, we already miss you. You are with your mom again, with her apple stuffing! We love you and may God bestow his grace on you.
Matthew will join his mother in niche “Court of Grace #11” in the mausoleum at Bellevue Memorial Park on Mountain Ave in Ontario at 10am on Friday October 18. We will assemble in the chapel at the west end of the mausoleum.
A Celebration of Matthew’s Life will follow at 1pm at 5357 Wrangler Dr in Fontana.
