Michael was born to the late Michael and Sadie Wehby, in Detroit, Michigan on April 21,1927. He was immersed in the Catholic community that would be his lifelong support from an early age. He became the man of the house at the age of 2 when his father suddenly passed away. He graduated from grammar school and then went to work to support his mother and three sisters.
Michael was blessed with a large and loving family. He married the girl next door, the love of his life Grace Marie Lupo on August 6,1949 in Detroit, Michigan. Michael helped raise his four children with patience, discipline and humility. He taught them the importance of strong Catholic faith, and to be kind and giving to those around you.
In 1965 he packed up the family with little in his pocket and moved to Alhambra, California. He then opened with his brother-in-law, Detroit Auto Wreckers, in Los Angeles, CA followed by Michigan Auto Wreckers, and Motor City Auto and Sanval Auto Wrecking. Everyone in the dismantling industry knew him as "Cigar" Mike or the "Detroit Kid".
To say Michael was hard worker is understatement. He was kind and witty, he always had a smile on his face and a cigar in hand. No matter how busy he was he had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how small. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his creator.
Michael is now in heaven reunited with his loving wife Grace. He is survived by his 4 children, his daughter Marlene Federico, his sons Michael (Norma), Ronald (Denise) and Donald (Annette); his 9 grandchildren Mario (Andrea), Roseanna, DeAnna, AnnaMarie (Mathew), Danielle (Eric), Nicholas, Ian, Tianna, and Graciana his 6 great-grandchildren Larsen, Elia, Liam, Grace Marie, Marco, and Luke.
In addition to his wife Grace, he was predeceased by his 3 sisters, Eleanor “Audie”, Lillian, Martha, and his son-in-law Ronald.
Michael’s Visitation will be held at Draper Mortuary, 811 N. Mountain Avenue in Ontario, CA on Monday, February 5, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Rosary Service beginning at 7:00 PM.
