Nancy Jean Miedema, a devoted Mom, Wife, and Grandmother, passed away on March 6, 2026, at the age of 70. Born May 24, 1955, in California, Nancy made her home in La Verne, California, where she was known for being happy, helpful, and supportive to those around her.
Nancy attended Montclair Highschool, where she graduated in 1974. She was a talented baton twirler, competing in the marching band and winning many awards and accolades. Through this experience, Nancy made countless friends that she kept for the rest of her life. She then went on to work as a medical transcriptionist at Irwindale Medical Center, and also shared her talents as a baton instructor. Later in life, Nancy gave back to her community by volunteering with the Bonita Unified School District.
A woman of creativity and warmth, Nancy especially enjoyed arranging flowers and decorating for the holidays. Anyone who had the pleasure of visiting her home would notice immediately the curated eye for decor she had- especially anything involving roosters, bows, and hearts.
Nancy’s life centered on family. She valued the people she loved most and took deep pride in watching her children and grandchildren grow, and in the life she built as a wife and mother. She embraced her role as a mom to her children Steven, Ryan, and Jenny, and remained close with them throughout her life. During their younger years, Nancy supported every activity and event- not a sports practice or volunteer opportunity was missed. In more recent years, Nancy treasured her weekly luncheon dates with her daughter, getting their nails done at the beauty salon, and shopping together. She also enjoyed going to her grandsons little league games and attending family gatherings, taking every opportunity to create memories with her loved ones. Her grandkids will forever remember her as the #1 Mammaw.
Nancy met her husband, Jeffrey, through local events in the San Dimas area. The two fell in love and were married at the Pomona Mining Co., on Valentines day, Nancy's favorite holiday. Nancy and her husband shared an interest in the old mines of the Mohavi Desert, and diving the rugged, dusty roads in a jeep wrangler while looking for old Mining camps to explore. The two loved trailer camping, eating good food, and all the other small things that life has to offer. They had 30 wonderful shared years full of fun adventures with their children.
Among the simple joys that reflected her personality were her favorite restaurant, Vince’s Spaghetti, her favorite color, pink, her favorite actress & comedian, Lucille Ball, and the music she enjoyed—90s pop, including Michael Jackson, and 90s love songs, including Barbra Streisand. She liked cell phone games, taking and posting photos on social media, and keeping up with friends & family on Facebook. Everyone knew not to mess with Nancy when her beloved Dodgers were playing- she watched every game from her home TV, cheering them on with excitement.
Nancy also loved walks with her puppy, a small pugapoo, around Puddingstone Reservoir and bye-bye road trips with the family. She had a deep appreciation for nature & animals. She loved camping and taking trips to the beach and the mountains, embracing time away as an opportunity to be together and make memories. Nancy especially liked the pond in her yard where frogs, birds, dragonflies, and all kinds of critters would appear. She had a love for all creatures big and small, and would name each one affectionately. Nancy had a special friendship with her puppy, and she would dress it up for every occasion (their favorite being Halloween, where the whole neighborhood got to see what adorable costume Nancy had picked out).
At the core of her life was Nancy's faith- she loved God deeply and lived that love through kindness and a heart devoted to serving others. For many years, she was a faithful and devoted member of her church, where she found great joy in worship, fellowship, and community.
Nancy will be remembered as a truly one-of-a-kind individual, known for her bright disposition, her eye for fashionable outfits, and the joyful presence she carried wherever she went. Her warmth and vibrant energy were a light to everyone she encountered, and though she will be missed dearly, her memory lives on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her.
A funeral service for Nancy will be held at the LDS Church in La Verne (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2645 Amherst St, La Verne, CA 9175), on Monday, March 23, 2026 from 10:00am - 11:00am. All of Nancy's family and friends are welcome to attend.
Following the service, Nancy will be laid to rest at the Bellevue Memorial Park mausoleum, (1240 W G St., Ontario, CA 91762). This event will be private, for immediate family only.
Flowers may be sent to Draper Mortuary, 811 N Mountain Ave, Ontario, CA 91762.
