Neil Monroe Tyner

Neil Monroe Tyner, 78, was born January 1, 1948, in Los Angeles, California, and died September 8, 2026. He lived in Chino, California. Neil served his country with quiet steadiness and enduring pride in the United States Navy, putting his skills to use as an engineering specialist.

Those who knew Neil will remember him as one of the smartest and best guys they had ever known—a man whose ability to understand, figure out, and create seemed to come with ease, yet was grounded in patience and practicality. A loving father and husband, he carried deep pride in his family and in the life they built together.

Neil and his wife, Kathy, were set up in 1981 by Kathy’s father, Chuck—an introduction that became the beginning of a lasting partnership and family. In the years that followed, Neil’s devotion to those he loved remained a constant, expressed in the everyday ways that matter most.

A man of many talents, Neil was self-taught in nearly everything he put his hands to. He could build, design, carve, and invent—approaching each project with a natural skill and an inventive mind. His favorite color was blue, and country music was the soundtrack he enjoyed most. He found pleasure in hunting, golfing, mechanics, and being a true handyman, and he enjoyed watching both men’s and women’s golf as well as *The Amazing Race*. He also loved visiting timeshare spots in Palm Springs and San Diego, and he never lost his appreciation for good food—especially Mexican food and international cuisine.

Neil valued camaraderie and shared interests, and he was involved in the RGA (Retiree Golf Association) and the NRA. He took pride in his golf handicap, a detail that reflected not only his enjoyment of the game, but also his steady commitment to improving at what he loved.

Neil was preceded in death by his parents, James “Tex” and Estelle “Eileen” Tyner; his son, Garret James Tyner; and his siblings, Elaine, John, Virginia, and Bryce. He is survived by his wife, Kathy; his sons, Bryan Shane and Jason; his daughter, Stacey; eight grandchildren, Garrett, Kaitlyn, Jessica, Darion, Nicole, Lauren, Oliver and Penny; and five great-grandchildren Olivia, Emma, Adam, Eren and Balthazar.
