With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ruben Olague, who was born on December 31, 1958, to his loving parents, Armida Coronado and Pete Olague. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Ruben lived a life rooted in love, resilience, and unwavering devotion to his family.
Ruben is now reunited in eternal rest with his beloved parents and siblings, finally finding the peace that may have eluded him in this world. Though he is gone, his presence will forever be felt by all who knew and loved him.
The youngest of six children, Ruben carried with him a deep sense of family from an early age. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Eileen Torres, his last living sibling, whose love and care meant so much to him. He is also survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Isabel, and his cherished children: Jennifer, Chris, Ruben Jr., Elise, and Cristy. He was a proud and loving Tata to his 11 grandchildren: Destany, Briana, Dasani, Jaylene, Maury, Sonny, RJ, Dillinger, Penelope, Darla, and Josiah, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride.
Ruben began working as a young teenager, demonstrating a work ethic that spoke volumes about his character. A skilled machinist of 42 years, he earned the respect of his coworkers, who often shared stories of his talent and dedication. Though he was saddened by an early retirement due to health issues, his sense of purpose and pride in providing for his family never wavered.
Above all, Ruben was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His love for his family was boundless—there was nothing he wouldn’t do for them. Known affectionately as “Uncle Rube” to many, he had a way of making everyone feel like family. He was selfless to his core, the kind of man who would give his last dollar to someone in need and sit with you, a Bud Light in hand, ready to listen without judgment.
Ruben was truly one of a kind—a social butterfly who brought warmth and laughter wherever he went. He loved his Raiders, always had music playing, and found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Whether it was working on classic cars, camping, shooting, watching and attending NASCAR races, drawing, tending to his yard, or spending time with loved ones, Ruben embraced life fully and passionately.
He will always be remembered for his humor, wisdom, and the sayings that became part of his legacy. “If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, it’d be Christmas every day,” he would often say. And to his children and grandchildren, his nightly words will echo forever in their hearts: “Goodnight, sweet dreams, teddy bears and rainbows.”
Ruben Olague leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and unforgettable memories. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing his love will live on in each of us. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Rest in peace, Ruben. Your love will never fade.
