Sharon was born in Hanford, California on September 5, 1941 to parents Henry & Marie Versluys. She carried forward a steady devotion to the people and principles that mattered most to her; family, church, and friends, and she remained proud of the family she helped build and nurture.
Sharon met her spouse, Bill Elgersma, at an A&W Root Beer stand, beginning a love story that grew into 45 years of marriage. Their life together was rooted in commitment and care.
A member of First Chino Christian Church, Sharon’s faith and fellowship were meaningful parts of her life. She was known for a compassionate spirit, a loving heart, and a generosity that made others feel welcomed and remembered.
Sharon found joy in the simple pleasures that made life bright: Christmas music, shopping, time spent with family, and her comforts she never outgrew (vanilla ice cream, a good burger and fries, and meals at Steer ’n Stein Restaurant). She loved listening to Christian music and the Statler Brothers, and she especially enjoyed visiting Las Vegas and taking weekend trips.
In her passing, Sharon rejoins her husband, Bill Elgersma; her son, John Elgersma; her sister, Elaine Anema; and her parents, Henry & Marie Versluys. She is survived by her daughters, Debra Elgersma (husband Gary) and Lisa Carroll (Husband David); her grandchildren, Kristyn, Matthew, Joshua, Jessica, Brandon, and Zachary, her niece Vicky Kootstra, and her nephew Steve Anema.
“Grief is the quiet echo of love that has lost its voice in the physical world. Though we can no longer see or hear the one we cherish, their presence remains woven into every memory, every laugh we shared, and every lesson they taught us. Love like that does not disappear—it transforms, becoming something eternal that lives within us.”
