Veronica was born on July 9, 1943 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Her family later moved to the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, California where she and her brother, Roland, attended Our Lady of Loretto Grammar School followed by her high school years at Our Lady of Loretto High School, graduating in 1961. She went on to attend California State University, Los Angeles, earning a Business degree.
Veronica enjoyed a remarkable professional career starting with Pacific Telephone and Telegraph, later known as Pacific Bell, where she dedicated 30 years of service before retiring in the early 1990s. Not one to remain idle, she continued building an impressive career in business and technology, working at Home Savings of America as a Financial / Project Manager and Assistant Vice President. She served as an Intranet and Internet Analyst Consultant for the County of San Bernardino, followed by positions as a Senior Business Analyst at Forest Lawn Memorial Park and a Business/System Analyst at World Vision International. Veronica concluded her distinguished career with Southern California Edison, retiring in 2011 as a Project Support Analyst.
Faith played an important role in Veronica’s life. She was an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Upland, California, where she faithfully served as both a lector and Eucharistic Minister. Veronica also loved giving back to her community. She volunteered at the Los Angeles County Fair in Pomona, where she especially enjoyed watching young children interact with the animals and exhibits and had hoped to volunteer once more during the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and potentially attend the track and field, gymnastics, and swimming competitions.
On the personal side, family and friendship were at the center of Veronica’s life. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she carried on a cherished family tradition of hosting annual Christmas celebrations. What started as gatherings for family members gradually expanded to include friends and coworkers. Veronica was famous for preparing homemade pozole and tamales, and the celebrations became beloved annual events. Attendees knew that while the party officially began at 1:00 p.m., it often continued well into the night.
Retirement provided Veronica with the opportunity to fulfill her passion for travel. Her adventures took her to Alaska, where she experienced the beauty of the Northern Lights, as well as to Barcelona, Madrid, Rome, Greece, Turkey, and Jerusalem. Her final international journey was to Paris, the City of Light, where she spent the last week of the 2024 Summer Olympics enjoying the excitement and spirit of the games. She was also a devoted fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, affectionately known to her as the “Blue Crew.” When attending games, she could never resist the famous Dodger Dog.
Veronica is survived by her Nieces, Deborah Kelly and Denyce Hiers, and her godson, Eric Rodriguez. She will be remembered for her strong faith, dedication to family and friends, generous spirit of service, love of travel, and enthusiasm for creating lasting memories with those she loved.
