He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as a paratrooper during the Korean War with the 187TH AIRBORNE REGIMENTAL COMBAT TEAM known as “The Rakkasans.” He completed 28 jumps and was in Korea when fighting ended on 27 July 1953 and honorably discharged December 24, 1954.
He was a born- again Christian, a strong believer in God’s word and dedicated his time to teaching and sharing the good news of God, by encouraging people to read and explore the beauty of the gospels, teaching and preaching about salvation.
He asserted that salvation is not gained by achievement and can’t be earned, noting the Bible asserts, “by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God" (Ephesians 2:8). Further, he consistently shared that Christ stated, "I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God" (John 3:3).
He is survived by his wife Esther L, their son Willie, seven other children, thirteen grandchildren, one great grandson, two sisters, and three brothers.
