She was born November 7, 1945, in Mitchell County, North Carolina, to the late Lillian (Gouge) Byrd and Frank P. Greene. Carolyn graduated from Madison High School and was an area homemaker her entire life. Generous and fashionable, she enjoyed being with her family and spending quality time with her sisters. Carolyn was an avid shopper and never met a thrift shop or garage sale that did not have some treasure just waiting to be discovered.
Carolyn is survived by a son, Jeffrey A. (Vicki) Shook of Lexington; two daughters, Lisa (David) Beard of Shelby and Cathy (Roger) Brokaw of Ontario; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie “Les” A. Shook.
The family will receive friends from 3:00-4:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The service will follow at 4:00 p.m. She will be laid to rest in Iberia Cemetery at a future date.
