Charles Edward Brooks

He was born February 2, 1940, in Ross County, Clarksburg, Ohio, and was the eldest son of James and Erma (Newlon) Brooks. Charles married Irene Ramey on February 3, 1968, and celebrated 49 years, 3 months, and 11 days together. Irene died on May 14, 2017.

Charles and Irene were members of the New Vision Church of God of Prophecy in Crestline, Ohio, since 2010. They began pastoring on August 1, 1971, and retired on July 31, 2008, after more than 37 years in Ohio, and in Oregon for 2 years. Charles was licensed in 1969 and ordained a Bishop in 1988.

He is survived by a son, Ronald (Nancy) Herbrand of Arlington, TX; daughter, Debra Bever of Columbus, OH; four grandchildren, Christy, Dustin, Sarah and Ryan; five great-grandchildren, Andrew, Isaac, Jacob, Alania and Audrey; a great-great granddaughter, Delilah; a brother, Thomas R. Brooks; a sister, Barbara Brooks; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Charles was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Joshua Miller; two sisters, Susan Brooks and Mary (James) Pickett; and a sister-in-law, Helen Brooks.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 8, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm at Wappner Funeral Directors and Crematory-Ontario, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday in Mansfield Memorial Park with Pastor Brian A. Lavelle officiating.
