Clarence Roessler was on this earth for 87 years and 363 days and passed away on June 5, 2025. He was born June 7, 1937, in West Harrison Indiana, the eldest son of Clarence and Mildred (Loos) Roessler.
He attended William Henry Harrison High School where he began playing football his junior year and was later inducted to the Harrison High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2009. His high school football success led to a full-ride scholarship to the University of Cincinnati, where he graduated in 1959 with a degree in Physical Education. Clarence began teaching in Ironton and Cincinnati and ultimately, followed his coach to Mansfield City Schools. There he taught PE (don’t call it gym), Health and Driver Training. He coached track, football, and swimming. He later had his own driving school and managed Linden Pool.
His teaching assignments then took him to the elementary schools, and it was at Empire Elementary that he met the person who would become his lady for the next forty years.
After retiring in 1989, he tended bar at the Red Fox Tavern. In 2001 he moved to Seminole, Florida, to pursue his love of fishing. Whether Lake Erie, the Gulf, Alaska, or Frank Sawyer’s pond, he was happiest when he was holding a rod and reel.
Clarence loved being around people, country dancing, trips to Vegas, antagonizing Ohio State fans, cooking, and working in his garden. He was a member of the Elks Club, Owls Club, and the American Legion.
He leaves behind his son, George Roessler; daughter, Becky (Lisa) Roessler; grandson, Jordan Gerhart; brother, Richard (Mary) Roessler; many nieces and nephews; his lady, Patricia Heuberger, with whom he made his home; and his furry buddies, Wishbone and Betsy. He also leaves behind special friends, Joe and Bob Hokes, Joanne Teuscher, Sarah Radcliffe, and Jerry Wright.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Roessler; sisters, Betty Holland and Helen Wakefield; and his daughter, Bobbi Gerhart.
At his request, his ashes will be scattered over Lake Erie, the Gulf of Mexico, and his garden.
A celebration of Clarence’s life will be held at the Elks Lodge #56, 499 Park Avenue West on Sunday, June 22, 2025, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.
