She was born in Long Beach, California, on October 10, 1937, to parents Marcus M. McCallen and Jessie L. Hunter Thompson. She graduated from William S. Hart High School in 1955 and attended North Hollywood Business College in North Hollywood, California.
Jessie was a “domestic engineer” as she like to call her occupation and was a mother figure to many of her children’s friends. She enjoyed journaling and wrote the most heartfelt sentiments in birthday cards of those lucky enough to receive one. Jessie was a spotless housekeeper with the straightest vacuum lines in Richland County. Her favorite sport was whatever her children and grandchildren were playing. She was a faithful friend, an avid Lexington sports supporter, a genealogist who enjoyed studying and recording her family history, and a beloved baker of the best chocolate chip cookies, holiday meatballs, and Chex mix.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marjorie “Cissy” McCallen; and brothers, Marcus McCallen Jr. and Bill McCallen.
Jessie is survived by her husband, Tom Scholl; sons, Bill Scholl, Bob (Rachelle) Scholl, and Tommy (Kelly) Scholl; daughter, Darcy (Craig) Sprang; grandchildren, Trey (Michelle) Boyd, Sydney Boyd (Ryan Reeder), Robbie (Emily) Scholl, Jessica (Tim) Elek, Sophie Scholl, Tucker Scholl, Carson Scholl, Braxton Scholl, Riley Scholl, Josie Scholl, Grant Sprang, Ben Sprang; and a special gift of a great-granddaughter on the way; sister, Virginia (Corky) Sebbo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services will be observed by the family. Burial will be in Lexington Cemetery. Wappner Funeral Directors-Ontario is honored to serve the family.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the caring and loving staff at SouthernCare Hospice. You were able to preserve her dignity—which was very important to her—as the days continued.
Our mom wanted people to think of her with this thought:
“But when tomorrow starts without me,
please try to understand:
that an angel came and called my name
and took me by the hand.”
