John Clifford Saterfield, age 80, of Mansfield, passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at home. He was born on March 6, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Audrey (Baucum) Payton and James Saterfield.
John spent his early years growing up in Meridian, Mississippi, before moving to Mansfield. He graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1964. After high school, he worked at Ohio Brass until he took a job with General Motors in 1969 until his retirement in 2006.
John was an avid sportsman. He played softball during the glory days at Cyclops, most notably with Cement Products. He bowled at Park Lanes and had several City Tournament titles, 300 games and 800 series. He loved to fish and, after retiring from softball, became an avid golfer. But his passion was being a dealer and collector. He dabbled in coins, antiques, jewelry and watches. He and Diane shared a love for doing antique shows across the state. While on their travels, they enjoyed spending time together and hitting the casinos whenever possible.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Diane Saterfield; sisters, Vicky (Sandy) Wall Parker and Marcia Wheatcraft; brother, Dale Butterbaugh; sons, Brian (Amy) Saterfield and Eric (Monica Musura) Saterfield; grandchildren, Kristine (Dave) Schmidt, Paige (Scott) Davis, Bradlee Saterfield, Melanie (Matt) Walker, Zachary (Dava) Saterfield, Mitchell (Miranda) Saterfield and Jackson Staton; ten great grandchildren; and special friends Greg and April Smith.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Wappner Funeral Directors and Crematory – Ontario, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. A graveside service conducted by Father Christopher Hofer will be held in Mansfield Memorial Park on Monday, October 13, 2025, at 11:00 am. Memorial contributions may be made in care of the family.
